« BackNLRB Considering Electronic Union-Organizing Elections
Tuesday, June 15, 2010
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is looking into the feasibility of conducting union-organizing elections electronically, including allowing employees to vote from their home computer or some other remote location. On June 9, the NLRB sent out a request for information for “industry solutions regarding the capacity, availability, methodology, and interest of industry sources for procuring and implementing secure electronic voting services for both remote and on-site elections.”
Much like card-check, off-site electronic organizing “elections” would allow professional union organizers to possibly target individuals for intimidation and coercion. And, since Big Labor has been unsuccessful in getting the Employee Free Choice Act signed into law, they need to use the NLRB to achieve their policy goals.
The NLRB now includes SEIU and AFL-CIO attorney Craig Becker, who President Obama appointed during a congressional recess after his confirmation had been blocked by the Senate.
